WHERE IS YOUR NEXT VACATION?

SCOTLAND

I had to start with my homeland!

Have you been yet? It’s MAGICAL! Whether you’re thinking of Braveheart, Harry Potter, Skyfall…. it’s all TRUE! The home of golf (this pic above is us in St Andrews, Fife), and yeah we do have a lot of whisky tours, Edinburgh is our capital city (defo stop by and see the castle and Holyrood Palace, hike Arthur’s Seat (nothing super-challenging, people do it in tennis shoes). Bring warm clothing! It’s the wind that’ll really get you, and I have to say most months we have really grey skies, but July - September I’d say are the warmest months.

Germany

Fun fact: I lived in Germany from ages 10 - 13

Then I went back for a 9-month internship in my twenties and got fluent (I absolutely encourage learning a foreign language!) Munich was where I was at both times. You DON’T need a car - the metro system is soooo efficient and you can catch a 1 hour train straight from the airport (Flughaufen) as well as all the big trains that head to Austria, Italy etc.

Things to see: Walk around Marienplatz (pictured above) hit-up the Hoffbrauhaus for a beer or a Spezi (cola and orange juice, I know it sounds strange but go for it!) eat some Pretzels (they say “Bretzen”) and I honestly love the bustling city streets, the fountains, the churches, the food which is pretty interesting once you give it a couple of tries, and I encourage a long stint at a beer garden or outdoor bakery/coffee shop!

ROMA

My FAVE city in the whole wide world is ROME!

Been there for New Year, Easter and the height of summer - what I can tell you is that summer is intolerably hot! I personally liked April time - that’s when I took Rob (and ladies; I was the intern with a salary while he was in school so I paid for and booked EVERYTHING as a surprise! Loved being able to do that!)

We stayed outside the city, north of the Vatican and it was right at some embassy and heavily guarded area which kinda made us feel good and safe. The land lady of these exclusive apartments (linked below) was from NY and such a doll to talk to! She gave us a map and we walked EVERYWHERE! The Colosseum, the Forum, The Trevi Fountain, the Temple of the Lost Soldier, the Vatican, the Castel Sant’ Angelo are what I say you MUST DO! But stop at random pizza places, ice cream parlors and whole-in-the-wall restaurants. We even went to see a movie in an old Italian theater with no subtitles (ordering the tickets was a laugh. but we loved it!)

FRANCE

Aaaah my childhood summers, most were spent in a car to get the ferry to get to a campsite in France :)

Campsites were often a couple of hours away from Paris and were great for weather, pools, nice local restaurants, Chateaus…really has a countryside vibe.

Now Paris, on the other hand, is a bustling city! Honestly, it wasn’t the cleanest when I was there and that kind of surprised me… but you’ll of course see the Eiffel Tower, the Arc De Triomphe, Notre Dame. I was FASCINATED with Marie Antoinette and so the absolute highlight for me was The Palace of Versailles! But block out a good 6 hours for this -tourists make all the rooms pretty packed - then you’ll want a decent amount of time once you get out to the stunning gardens and fountains! In the grounds is Marie Antoinette’s summer cottage which I didn’t get to see so if you guys can go make up for it for me please! ;)
